It was snowing and Naemi, also known as Minnie on the forum, was sitting in the black Range Rover beside the tall blond man driving on the curving mountain road. With anyone else she would be nervous, on this icy road at night, but not tonight. He was driving carefully but confidently, his eyes sparkling with excitement and a little smile curving his delicate lips. She looked at him, dressed in jeans, a wine colored lamb's wool sweater and boots and the most beautiful long arctic fox fur coat.
"What dearest?" he asked, as he glanced at her. His look may have only been a second but she felt as though he had given her the longest look of her life.
"Are you going to tell me where we are going?" she asked.
"Then it wouldn't be a surprise, would it?" he said. He had been cooking up this scheme for a while and this fall of snow had inspired the Viking sheriff of area five. His past and his love of the winter weather was playing heavily into the evening he had planned for her. He had emailed her and told her to wear warm clothes, that he would pick her up and take her to one of his favorite spots in the world, Solitude. He loved the name...Solitude...and with the wind and the cold, the mountain road they were driving was perfect in its solitude.
Finally, he pulled the Range Rover over on the side of the road and got out. He walked around the vehicle and opened the passenger door and handed Naemi out and then swept her up in his arms to carry her.
"Where are we going?" she asked again. He smiled at her, his pale eyes sparkling with pleasure and his otherness.
"Greedy," he said and began walking through the deep snow with out falter into the knee deep virgin pile of snow, glistening white and silver and blue and deep black in the shadows. Naemi laid her head on his shoulder and wondered at his grace as he walked with ease through the snow.
Finally, he decided they had walked far enough into the field and stood her on her feet.
"Isn't it beautiful?" he said. Naemi thought she picked up something of an accent in his voice. He looked at the cold vista before him. He seemed to see a world far away and long ago instead of this place, soon to be frequented by visitors from all over. The moon was huge, seeming to crush down on the earth in it's hugeness and the stars were faded in its brilliance, but behind them they were like diamonds.
"It is beautiful," she said, looking up at him.
"Are you cold, lover?" he asked. She nodded. He opened the long coat he was wearing, and invited her to step into it. Her arms went around his waist and his went around her, enveloping her in his arms and the wonderfulness of the fur coat. "Close your eyes for a moment Naemi, and don't open them until I tell you to," he said softly. His voice caressed her name like a lover's hand would caress her breast. She closed her eyes and squeezed them shut. "Hold on and don't let go of me," he said, almost a whisper. She put her face against his chest and the soft knit of the lamb's wool sweater he was wearing.
A few minutes later she heard his voice. "Open you eyes now," he said. She did as she was told and she at first did not understand why she felt so strange, so weightless. Then she realized why she felt that way. It was because her feet were no longer touching the ground. In fact she was several stories high off the ground, hanging there in mid flight in the arms of the man who was holding her against him. She was a little frightened and gasped.
"Don't be afraid, I will never let you fall," he said. "Look at the moon. My night time sun," he said.
"I'm afraid to look," she said, hiding her eyes in his silent chest, silent that is except for his soft laughter.
"I asked you to trust me, now you simply must. Look at me Naemi, do you think I would let anything happen to you?" he said. She tilted back her head to look at him and he leaned toward her a little. His lips were very close to hers. "The moon for the sun lover," he whispered.
Good night Minnie, Sweet dreams.
