It is funny when you travel, especially when you travel with friends. The scenery changes with the accents and your over all mood is enhanced. Ever notice it takes longer to travel to your destination than it does to get home? Passing through the high mountains of West Virginia, into the more lazy rolling hills of Tennessee, and out beyond to the flat lands, where the corn and grain are just poking their heads out of the soil, a promise of bread and corn in the husk and the feasts of the barbecue.
I love to travel. Mom always said I was born with a suit case in my hand. I could pack up and go at the drop of a hat. And As I drove in the convoy of friends, heading toward the mountains of Utah, I reveled in the notion of somewhere else and the adventures we might have. We had already had a few. I am Driving along, the window cracked, cigarette smoke flying out of the window, the radio on, and Renee and I are singing at the tops of our lungs, rocking to the 80's.
We stopped just outside Topeka, Kansas at the rest stop where we were to meet Westexan and Raki. We pulled in and got out, stretching, shaking blood into our limbs, and rubbing our seat weary rumps. God Speed was pointing and laughing because I was talking to Fairy and rubbing my butt at the same time. I gave him a hard look and my fave finger and he laughed as he walked toward the rest stop in search of that all important men's room.
We were chattering wildy because of the new things that were beginning to filter out to us. Even on the road, we would stop somewhere and bed down and gather to have our meeting of TBA. True our counselors would not be there, but we would and we had bunches to discuss this evening.
Westexan was the first to make it to us. She jumped out of the SUV she was piloting and we gave a shout and ran up for a group hug...We saw each other weekly but to be all together in the wild world was a treat. Pictures of the very nibble-able Kaiser was passed around and we exclaimed over his beauty (purely from his momma) and his size and the beauty of his momma, looking sassy and excited though her day never ended.
GS was looking at this IPad and found a combination truck stop and hotel. That is where we would land later tonight.....
See you all then
